Right to Safe Food
Consumers have the right to food that is safe, unadulterated, and properly labeled.
🗣️ What this means for you
If you buy food that is expired, adulterated, contaminated, or does not match its label (e.g., contains undeclared allergens or harmful chemicals), you can file a complaint. Food businesses must have FSSAI license, follow hygiene standards, and clearly label ingredients, expiry dates, and nutritional information.
Step-by-Step Action Plan
Do not consume any more of the suspected food product — keep the remaining product and packaging as evidence.
Note the FSSAI license number on the packaging, the batch number, and expiry date.
Take photos of the product, packaging, and the issue (foreign object, discoloration, etc.).
File a complaint on the FSSAI portal (foscos.fssai.gov.in) or call the food safety helpline.
You can also file a complaint with the local Food Safety Officer (FSO) or the designated officer.
File a consumer complaint in the Consumer Commission if you suffered harm.
